skimmer going crazy!

Recently my skimmer has been overflowing evrey few days. The collection cup just fills up with water and spills over. I noticed it happenning this morning and I had to completely open the gate valve and even then it was still bubbling into the cup.

So a little background. The entire system is in my basement and has been running since March 07. This seemed to start when we turned the heat back on, although now I am not sure since the heat can be blasting some days and it is fine. The sump is a 100 gallon rubbermaid container and has an auto top off so it is not due to fluctuations in water level. The skimmer is a Euroreef 12-1 that has 2 sedra 5000's that were mesh modded in March and has the gate valve mod as well (all 1.5" plumbing).

The sump is about 10 feet away from the furnace which is why I suspected the heating system. I have already replace the air filter in the venting incase it was something in the vents going into the air. Didn't help.

Any thoughts?

Could you take it out and do a vinager bath on the pumps and skimmer, and also put a drillbit though the airline input?

I have this problem when salt creap starts to build up in my air inputs and it makes the skimmer run very inconsistant.

Good deal,.. Let us know It's also probably a good idea to take a look at the mesh wheels while you have it apart. I'm told they only last 6 months or so.

Looks like a cleaning may have done the trick, nice call Wiskey. Soaked the pumps in vinigar and drilled out the venturi opennings and it is producing consistent small bubbles again with a nice foam head. One of the pumps venturi's was pretty clogged. We shall see over the next few days is that was the issue.

Seems to be skimming the way it used to right after the mesh mods were done. I got about a gallon of dark tea colored skimate in about 24 hours.
