Skimmer freaking out...

Ok, this is kind of a continuation of a thread that I started a couple of weeks back, but I am about to pull my hair out trying to get this thing to settle in.

Anyway, I have a new TurboFlotor HOB that worked like a champ for the first month I had it (emptying the cup about every 3 days).

After about 6 weeks; and while doing my monthly water change, I took the skimmer apart and cleaned it as well... and nothing has worked right since.

Now I only empty the cup about once a week and it's not but about 1/3 full when I do.

But now a new problem has cropped up. Twice now, the skimmer just fills the cup with water to overflowing. But I can find anything that has changed in the tank or the water.

I have taken the pump apart and reassembled it a couple of times thinking that maybe I put it back together wrong, but after careful inspection, I am quite sure that it's ok.

Any ideas what would make that thing just take off out of the blue like that?

Thanks,
-Brad

im not sure what it is, but my skimmer takes off like that from time to time too, it will be skimming fine, get about half full, then ill check it the next day, and its full of water, and has been over flowing for a while. really makes me mad because it just dumps all that waste back in the water. and my tank will be that much dirtier for a while.

My Coral Life SS does this from time to time. Luckily it is in my sump and does not flood the floor.
