Okay....remember that thread where you asked for opinions on emerald crabs, and I responded "so far my emerald crab hasn't damaged anything"? Well, I walk into my room and see something's majorly wrong, and now I'm in the midst of trying to advert a serious xenia crash, did major water change, my alk dipped to 1.7, xenia looks HORRIBLE.

So anyway, everything non-xenia looks okay, except for the colt coral. So I check that out, and low-and-behold, the emerald crab was on it's main stalk. I look at him, he looks at me, then he reaches for another bite.

I moved him to "that other tank" I have. His stay will be short...Just to let you know, emerald crabs are now on my "thumbs down" list.

Not a good day for me.

Sara

Sara, if sashi doesn't deal out justice let me know I will be happy to "escort the offender into the void" Hope the colt recovers, mine last frag is making a slow comeback.

Are you sure he was actually eating the colt? My emeralds used to hide in both my colt and toadstool, never bothered anything. The first one finally aquired a taste for mushrooms once he ate all the algae and I got rid of him...wish I could get him back now.

I think the emeralds are probably fine as long as there's enough algae for them to eat.

Well, I dont know if this is a co-incidence, or not, but I am trying to avoid a major xenia crash myself. Major water change today also. I have not seen an offender eating it, but alas, I am running around with my head cut off trying to avoid disaster!

Sara,

Reef justice is good justice. Emerald Sushi, I think so. Go Sashi

Well justice was dispensed, I say "poetic justice," Sashi called it "yummy".

Xenia is 100% dying, in a last-ditch-effort to save it I moved it to Sashi's tank, he's stareing at it right now. It's starting to pulse again, but the stalk and the polyps are badly shriveled and and have an ominous pale yellowish color...doesn't look good.

All other xenia in my tank (two different species) doing fine. It's just my favorite that's dying.

bill-e> He did do very little damage, but that's because I caught him just in time. There's only a small wound on the colt, it's all expanded today, should be fine. But that's it, I'm swearing off crabs.
