Well if the fish has been nipping at the rocks, he could have cause some tissue damage from going after pods. If this is the case, it should heal on its own.

that is kinda what it looks like but it is now laying flat on his side and swimming slugish when it does swim. my nitrates are a little high and my salt is 1.025 ph is 7.8 to 8.0 will this have any bearing on making his mouth do this. (I have Coral)

I had the same thing happen to my coral beauty!! she was so pathetic with her swollen fuzzy fungus filled lips! My cleaner shrimp would get in there and pull out all this gunk. She went through about 3 weeks of on and off spots on her body after her lips cleared and she is fine now. I really think that she nipped at something she won't be nipping at again!! Live and learn. Although I will just say that mine was never acting "ill" like you are describing.

well sorry I have not posted in a day or so was out of town. well any way my coral beauty has went to that great reef in the sky. no other fish bothered it, it was in the shop for a couple days, and had oly stuff on lips. the rest of the colar was fine. could it be possible that it just over eat? I do not have any other things that would clean in the tank or even the stuff off the coral.
one more thing, seems like every time I get a new fish it dies I got 2 of them this time and the clown fish does nt look good eather. no marks on him, good fins and colar. ph is 8.0 tha ammonia is .5 I no this is a little high but I have already done a 12 gal. water in a 55. should I do more. also put stuff in to bring it down and it just wont. salt is 1.025 the old fish are fine.

how long has your tank been set up? It should not have any ammonia if it is established. You should not add any more fish until you figure that out. The fish that were already in there may have adjusted to the gradual rise in ammonia. But a new fish is not going to tolerate. Fish are really hard to keep unless the tank is fairly mature (as I have found out the hard way!)
Sorry about your little beauty

probably the same for them. Do you know why after a year you still might have ammonia?

I check it at home and at the lfs. I put a 5 pd. live rock in would that make it go up. and what do yu all keep your salt at? one at the lfs says 1.026 because that is natural, and the other lfs says 1.023.
