Show me those 55s!

Okay, as I get cloaser to water day I get more and more neurotic about...well...everything! Mostly about aquascaping. Im realy interested to see others set ups and how they dealt with the narrow 55.
Ive got a glass 55 with a 29 sump. 440 watts of VHO with two super actinics and two 10000k daylights. My overflow is rated up to 1200 gph and the return will be through a spraybar mounted the length of the tank on the bottom back blowing up and forward under the rock. (its gonna be a Bare Bottom) The return pump is 900 gph. I have also built a closed loop system powered by a 850 gph external pum. The water will be skimmed by an AquaMedic Turboflotr Multi in the sump. The stand is way over sized to the point that it would fit a 150 surprisingly perfect! (sometimes Im a thinker!)
Theres also two 200 watt titanium heaters and this will all be powered by a dedicated 30 amp circuit (wich is what Im waiting on). I think thats it, so lets see those 55 pics!!

is it true guys, that 55's are hard to set up as a reef because they are narrow, me and Adam were looking at one, but someone it was a horrible choice for a tank size, from your pics however this does not seem to be true

Well.. I'd prefer something with more space. But by no means would I call it horrible in terms of aquascaping options.. If i was to do it again I'd get something larger. Shallow, long and wide are good things. My major problem with the 55/65 tank size is the severe limit on what fish you can put in the tank. There are so many fish I want that I simply cannot house in the tank.

you think that the 55 is bad... try a 45H... I bought it before I understood what I needed. It is really difficult to aquascape. I basically have to stack the LR like a wall if I want any open space in front. It's not very stable like that either.

yeah if I ever get another tank it will be long wide and shallow, I saw a tank the other day that would be neat, 36 long, 30 wide, and 12 tall, would be cool for clams

a 35 long is the same way it is way to narrow and hard to make look nice with aquascapeing. 36" x 12" x 14"

Well....between the 90g saltwater, the 29g saltwater, and the 10g freshwater, that quarter jar is about empty! Time to search the couch for pennies to get the 55g going.

no doubt

If you are upgrading the 29 gal, that would make a nice species tank. Seahorses, frogfish, anglers, not sure about size, but maybe a valentini puffer or spotted puffer... Any ideas what you are going to do with it, yet?
