Should I reinforce my tank stand or leave as mfg design??

I have a Perfecto Pine stand for my 55 gallon aquarium. The way they designed it the tank is basically just held up by the ends...nothing the middle supports the tank. However, the way the stand is designed, I could easily cut a piece of 3/4" plywood the size of the bottom of the tank and set it in the stand and it would support the tank in the middle. By doing this, I could even put a piece of styrofoam insulation board under the tank as well, where as the way the stand is designed now, there is no way to have the styrofoam under the tank and have it supported by anything. Should I just leave it as the original design, or would be it prudent of me to cut a piece of plywood so that it supports the center of the tank? If I do that, should I go another step further and have it on a piece of styrofoam insulation board?

I don't know about Perfecto, but All-Glass stuff is designed to be supported by the edges/frame. They have specifically told folks not to put foam or anything under the tank.
