Shipping Inverts Dry?

I read that a certain vendor(possible more vendors idk though)ships snails and hermits "dry" with damp news paper. How long can these critters last out of water, before they sufficate or dry up?

I know some suppliers ship zooas and anemones with no water and just damp paper.

I know about the zoos, but the hermit crabs puzzeled me because I had one crawl up a powerhead cord and onto the carpet. I think he did it over night and was dry in the morning, but it could have been longer and may not have noticed it.

quite a long time. as long as the bag is not punctured they will be fine for at least 48 hours that way. as long as the gills are kept moist the crabs will be fine. zoas and other tidal critters can easily handle 4 hours in the baking tropical sun exposed. sitting in a moist bag in the dark will be easy.
