Seriously Weak - The Demise of my First Clam
Seriously,
I got home from work today and my conch was EATING my Derasa Clam. . The clam is in very tough shape. I do not think it can even close anymore. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before??? I did not think many things would attack a healthy clam. Let me know if you think the clam stands a chance of survival. I want to leave it in the tank, but not if it doesn't stand a chance. This sucks.

This may be a possibility...I am not that familiar with them. The fish store thought it was a conch...not sure if that means much. Here is a picture, let me know what you think.

what did they sell it as a fighting or queen?
The queens do have a pointy tipped shell, and the fighting have a blunt tip.
But from that photo im not sure if it is a queen

Queens often climb the glass.
I am so sorry for your loss. Did it deteriorate at all, or go from good to awful overnight?

No, the clam was doing awesome for the week...it was even healthy this morning. Then I came home from work and the "conch" was inside of the clam shell and that is what I saw.

I believe they sold it as a queen conch. I still can't believe this happened. Is it worth complaining to the fish store??? Do you feel they are partly responsible??

A welk will go after anything in the tank...do you have other snails or even shrimp in the tank?
This may just be a case of a conch in the wrong place at the wrong time, too.

well its funny, I do have shrimp and snails in the tank. But I also had a fish go missing too. No sign of him at all. I checked all the rock, just disappeared.

Thank You DevilBoy,
I had someone smarter than the LFS manager look at it and he pointed out a couple of features that made him sure it was a whelk. I brought it back to the fish store and they actually gave me credit for the clam and the "conch". I had a six-line disappear completely from the tank about 1 month ago, no traces at all. I wonder if it is possible that the whelk got that too???
Thanks again for the help!!!

I'm so happy you told the store of your problems and even happier they took care of it for you! I'm still sorry you lost your clam.
