Seahorses
I'm thinking getting some seahorses from a company called oceanrider they are captive bred and i was wondering if anyone here has ordered from them or has had any experience keeping seahorses. I've got a 70 gal reef tank set up and i just set up a 35 gal tank hopefully for the seahorses.

I have never ordered from Ocean Rider, but I do know that they are one of the well-known sources for horses. In fact, they are one of our sponsers. I think you will be happy with them.

Click on their website and work out all the issues before hand. They are somewhat delicate animals and need all your attention

Seriously, sea horses are an at risk group, starting with semidomesticated is a good thing but please do tons of research before commiting to these fascinating creatures

They 2 pair of seahorses arrived this morning in good shape, i was a bit disapointed with the color of them i was expecting yellow or orange like the ones on their site but my ones were dark orangy brown and black. They have had some feed which was interesting as i've never seen them eat before, they move real slow towards the food then snap it up with a click you can outside the tank and then they squirt some "stuff" out of their gills. All in all i'm very pleased with my purchase and I hope i can take good care of these new and interesting creatures.

It's highly likely that the horses were discolored from the stress of being shipped. Give them a week to settle into their new environment and definately check seahorse.org for info on keeping and enhancing color. Good luck with them!

Thanks for telling me to check seahorse.org i found some useful info about the coloring, they say the seahorses will change color according to their mood and their surroundings, so i'm going to spray paint my live rock bright yellow.

I've always thought seahorses are really cool but just didn't think I had the time to feed the live food so often. But now that some horses will take prepared foods, maybe a seahorse tank is in my future... I really liked Bill-e's horse tank when I saw it. http://www.thereeftank.com/cgi-bin/u...c&f=1&t=002982
Hmm, I need to lay off these boards. A couple of nights ago I was SERIOUSLY thinking of setting up an octopus tank, honest to God I was this close! All because I stumbled upon somebody's octopus website. It's never just enough in this hobby

"It's never just enough in this hobby "
Drew,
Well, first it was a series of FW tanks; then the reef; then the Chainlink Moray tank; next will be a bigger reef and bigger tank for the growing Moray; FishGirl wants a Valentini Puffer (another new tank); and then there is the long-promised FW Angelfish tank; and, yeah, those captive bred Seahorses are sure appealing. Did I forget the prop. tank??
No, it never ends!
