Sea cucumbers


Can sea cucumbers b keep in a bb tank ?

Depends. If they are sand sifters, then I'd vote "no". If they are filter feeders, then possibly, yes, IF there is enough "stuff" in your water to feed them. Research the species you wish to keep - some are harmless but others have the potential to release toxins to "nuke" your tank. Avoid some of the brighter coloured ones, esp. the filter feeding ones. Avoid sea apples - as beautiful as they are they can wipe out a tank PDQ.

NO, NO, NO even if you do have a sandbed. Sand sifter or not they all, in a way, have the toxin defense mechanisim. They are the ICBM's of the reef aqurium. Just in my opinion.

Sea Apples are lovely though. But you need a massive water volume to negate their threat of polluting the water on a whim.

Actually this is an often misunderstood problem associated with Holothurians and miscellaneous other cukes as well, although I totally concur with this opinion when speaking of sea apples, particularly large specimens in small tanks.
