What kind of clowns?
How big is your tank, how long established, and what kind of lighting?
All anemones can and do move around until they find a place that satisfies them, and they can stay put for a long time and just get up and move one day for no apparent reason.
Some species are suitable for captive life, but many are a challenge at best. Not all anemones match with all clowns, and even if you get a 'textbook match' there's no guarantee that the fish will adopt it...

My tank raised Perc was kept with sand sifting gobies at the pet shop. Took him home and he sifts my sand, for pods I presume. Oh well I thought. Then I added a small school of tank raised Green Chromis, which my clown has now taken upon himself to be a member of and self appointed king. He's now convinced them all to sand sift as well. I've now givin up on any chance of him hosting in an anemone... Which was my goal when I started. Oh well, what can we do.

Many tank raised clowns won't host an anenome. I think this is because they rarely feel threatened. The hosting gene needs to be turned on So I just introduced to clarky's hopefully the other clowns will threaten them into the anenome.
I have a rock anemone " Epicystis crucifer" Not that pretty but hardy and they tend to stay in one place. Mine moved to the back of the tank and attached to rock, but it stretches for the light and I can view it just fine. It has cool purple dots on it. Saltwaterfish.com has them cheap, but you can find them around, maybe clowns don't like them.

Rock anemones usually don't host any fish - they'll eat them. We have several roses and the tomato's have never even looked at it.

Well the clarky's are doing the brush up thingy with the rock anenome. Will see if it eats them . But I think I'm correct about the threatening reaction. The sunrise dottyback is letting them know who's boss. The other clown fish just try to herd them.

I bought a carpet anemone about 2 weeks ago, and my tank-raised percula hasn't even considered the option of brushing up against him.

Hello
My maroon clown hosts my Solomon Island torch coral. He defends it quite aggressivley all day. At night he retreats to my powerhead for a snooze---Oh well---He hosted the powerhead before I added the torch!
