Hmmm, the only thing i've been told that'll shorten the life of a SCWD, is intake water not having something to stop the influx of sand .grit etc. Was told this by Premium,and they ran the heck outa a couple of them,
they told me some kind of foam block etc. helps longevity a lot,,,
HTH,,

Oh yeah my water goes through two sponges before it gets to the SQWD, that explains it.....;

No sand is not the problem. My water comes form the sump with no sand. I took it off last night and found that the propeller inside had come off it's shaft. The things cannot be taken apart without cutting them and I did not want to take the chance on it leaking.

I still have the Original box it came in. I read the owners manual and it spoke of a 90day warranty. I have a phone # to the company. I am going to call on Monday. I will let you guys/girls know how it turns out.

Update

Ok I finally made contact with the company who makes the SCWD and they are going to replace it. I will have to pay the shipping to get it there though. I was given two options for the transaction.
1) give cc info and he will send one and I can send him mine back after I get the new one.
2) Send mine in and he will send one to replace it after the receives the bad one.
Nice guy to work with.
I will keep you folks updated.

So, they did honor the warranty on the SCWD after the limited warranty expired? That is good to hear that they are taking responsibility for their product.

Do you like the performance of the product?

I have one on order because I understood from researching that most people seem to like the SCWD.

I love it. It keeps the PHs out of the tank. It worked great right up until the wheel ran off.

I just received my SCWD yesterday so I hope to get the closed loop installed this weekend.

I'm glad to hear that they stand behind thier product.

By the way....Marine Depot has them for $20 less than the manufacture sells them for.
