Sand Settling Question

Hi!

Yesterday I added new sand to my 14g... The sand bed wasn't deep enough for the anemone moving in there...

Anyway - it was a very fine sand (a new kind from the LFS) and it still hasn't settled! It's been almost 18 hours now. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? I really need to get the critters moved into this tank as my niece is coming soon to pick up my other tank...

Anything I can do?

Thanks All - Kim

It takes a little time, I assume since you were adding sand that there is already some sand and live rock in the tank. Once the biofilms start forming on the sand granules, it will settle much more rapidly, but it may take up to a week or 10 days to become totally clear again.

Best think you can do? Get some duct tape and have a friend Duct tape your hands behind you to keep your hands out of the tank

Yes, they will be fine. This happens in the wild all the time and these organisms have evolved mechanisms to deal with the settling suspended fine particulates.

Well wonderful! I'm going to wait at least another 4 hours - until the last minute I can -hopefully it'll clear more by then. Then I'll wait

Thanks Tom - always appreciate your help!
