Sand Information

Just talked to the sealcoat distributor....the sand these guys have is a silica based sand...
he has it in 30 (crystal), 55, and 100 mesh sizes...he says the mesh size is the sieve size used to grade the sand...not sure how that equates...(the 55 looks awfully close to oolitic)
I know some people have had success with silica and others have not..not sure aboutwhy it would be good for some and not good for others...I think I'll give it a try...

$4.50 for a 100 lb bag...

if anyone is interested you might try asphalt distributors or sealcoating supply houses...

silicate

I think the reason some people are against silicate sand is they beleive the silicates will leach into the water giving rise to algae blooms. I remember reading an article that totally de-bunked this train of thought, a link on RC I believe - I'll try and find it.
