Sand for new tank

I am getting ready to order sand for my new 40G breeder tank. I am wondering how much it will take to get 4" or so in depth for that tank for my DSB. I had just planned on ordering a bunch and seeing how close I got, but I imagine someone might have a better estimate than that. Also, Do I want the extra fine grain sand exclusively, or might I benefit from adding a little (maybe one bag)course stuff for crabs and gobies (jawfish?) to play with later?

Handy calculator page. Check at your local Home Depot for Southdown sand. Its like $2.50-$5 for a 50lb bag. Key is getting the right kind. Make sure it is the "white" sand. They use the same SKU # for two different types. One is the brown silica sand and the other is actually argonite sand. It depends on your region whether they have the brown or white sand. If you are on the east coast and more northern part, you are golden...just need to find it. Gonna post this in the main forums too since a lot of ppl look for this sand.

SKU #169803 (may differ depending on your location)

Reef Central has a calc that you can use to figure out roughly how much you will need.
