saltwater minnows and clams

i took the family to the beach today.. while playing around in the water we saw minnows. i caught 4 but let them go. i was wondering how big they get.

also. how big does the little clams that burrow in the sand get. we had fun digging them up and watching them dig back into the sand.

not planning on bringing them home or anything .. just cerious .. i don't want to put them in my tanks.. unless it was a small tank with beach sand and water.. lol.. but then i really don't need another tank.. have 4 now.

anyway.. lol.. any info would be great..

The clams were most likely coquinas. They stay small, less than an inch or so. The minnows could be many different species. It's hard to say how big they would get.

From 1" to 40', depending on what kind of minnows they were

don't know what type of minnow it was.. they were at jax beach.. small and almost clear white. had a blast trying to catch them. lol.. caught 4 in one try but couldn't catch any more.. they were pretty fast ... .. what can i say.. it was fun.. just cerious to what size they get. would have been an interesting project for a small tank for kicks ... as an after thought. we let them all go. would have been to hot to keep them anyway and didn't have a cooler with us.. would have been cruel to them.. (as if trying to catch them wasn't enough as it was.. lol..)

the kids thought it was neat to see them and the clams too. we watched them burrow back into the sand.. they had fun digging them up and we put them back on top of the sand to watch them.

we also found what looked like a bristle worm. i thought that was neat to show the kids. kinda educational as well as fun. its too bad there wasn't any more critters to show them. maybe one day i will find a place to take them to see other ocean critters in their natural habitat ...

Next time, take them to the jettys on the shipping side. If you walk the rocks, you can find all kinds of critters on the rocks. Let me know if you want to know where I have in mind. It is close to the casino boats in Jax Beach
