salts
I set up my tank again with good sand. Some from an existing tank that the LFS had from a customer(120lbs.), and some new sand they had(120lbs.). I also bought some water from the LFS they said it would speed things up. They use tropic marine in their system so I am wondering what salt do you like best, and if salt in an aquarium can be changed to another kind with water changes. Tropic marine is just so much more than the other kinds in cost and I don't know if it's worth it. Of course the LFS said it was.
Thanks,

what is your brand of choice and can you tell me why?
Thanks, I'm just trying to learn a few more things so I don't screw it up.

I prefer Oceanic. The brands are all practically the same when it comes right down to it; personal choice. Just make sure your using RO water to mix.

They are all very similair but after using Oceanic for 1 year, I got tired of low ALK levels and ended up back with Instant Ocean. Kent is also a very good salt but it is expensive in my area.

I like instant Ocean and Reef cystals mixed. I have been trying Oceanic for the past few Water Cahnges , I think i will go back to IO and RC.

I never mix salt brands. I stick to one salt and one salt only. I use Bio Sea Marine Mix.

i like IO. you can switch salts, but it is a good idea to mix them when you are going to switch to a new brand. they are all slightly different, but enough to mess you up. if you ease into the new salt with a couple of WC of mixed, i find it easier to adjust to the new salts lightly different characteristics.
