Sally Lightfoot Crab either died or shed it's shell...

Hello Everyone,

This morning after my lights came on, I always look at everything in the tank and I noticed that back behind a rock at the rear of the tank, I could see the legs of my Sally Lightfoot crab. A little later I looked and they were still there. Still a little later they were STILL there!!! Well, for those of you that have Sally Lightfoots, you know that they are VERY active.

I decided to stick my small net back there and see if it had died. I was able to retreive the crab and when I held it, it's legs were limp and it seemed "see-through". It was COMPLETELY intact, no holes or broken seems or anything.

My guess (hope) is that it have shed it's old shell and I just had the old shell and now it is hiding while it's new shell hardens.

Does this sound right to you all???

Please let me know. I need reassurance

Man I hate it when new crabs do that do you. If it is see through it is probably just a molt. You should see your crab in a few days!

It's probably just the shell from a molt. Even though I know what to expect every time I see it I think my crab has died. The shell is completely intact. Makes me wonder how they get out, especially the legs.

Sally's molt through a small slit in the back of the carapace. Of all the crabs, these are the ones that will get you with the molt trick every time I'd realy be interested in seeing one squeeze out through that slit but the darn thing won't cooperate, lol.
