Salinity

A few days ago I scraped hiar algae off my live rock and did a water change with it. The salinity was at 1.025 but after the change it went down to 1.019! We are working on getting it back up now, but my corals have pretty much all closed up and I think might die. Is there is any hope for them? Also I had a bicolor bleeny but haven't seen him for about 1 1/2 days, do you think he is dead?

Thanks

Adam

Nah, they should be fine. I keep my salinity about there usually without issue. it's just a little hypo. bring the salt up very slowly

Actually, that is specific gravity you are measuring. Bring it up slowly indeed.

Am I anal enough for everyone?

what are you using to measure the S.G.? if using a swing arm i would double check it with someone else to be sure. refractometers are a better choice for measuring S.G.

How are you measuring your level? Refractor is the most accurate, so make sure you are getting a good test reading. The float arms can sometimes give different readings. Make sure before you start adjusting.

dropping salinity is not that big of a deal for most of the critters. like has been said just raise it slowly. some people keep thier tanks that low, so it there is no long term effect of keeping a tank that low.

as for the blenny, that is pretty unusual for them to not be seen hopping from one high vantage point to the next. once there they are hard to find, but they usually are seen when moving. i would be kinda worried, but it may show up.

have you looked in your sump?

No, I'll check the sump now. Should I put just a little food in the water and see if that makes him come out?
