Could somebody advised the best place (most in expensive) to purchase Salifert Test kits. I have been using red sea but I do not like the alk test.

I have found that most sites like www.thatpetplace.com www.marinedepot.com are all about the same price within a few dollars.

If your looking for an good cost effective basic Marine test kit (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, alk) ... then I would recommend Seachems (which includes a good alk test kit). Both Salifert and Seachem are known for good test kits .. Seachems tend to be less expensive. While some individual Salifert test kits are probably better than Seachems .. when it comes to some of the basic tests Seachem is as good and in some cases better than Salifert. At any rate .. worth a look.

The point I was trying to make is Seachems alk test is as good as Saliferts. Further ... an individual alk test kit for either Seachem or Salifert is going to cost you about $13 .. where a Seachem Basic Marine test which includes ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and alkalinity is going to cost about $26 which makes it a pretty good deal if your tanks still young enough where those test count. Further .. Seachems ammonia test kit is definitely superior to Saliferts which can be important if your in a stocking mode.

Not trying to get into a Seachem/Salifert dispute ... just trying to point out their are alternatives and Seachem can make more sense depending on what tests your performing.

Thanks. The tank is still young however I already have the marine test kit from REDSEA. after reading some of the post I noticed that the majority of reef keepers utilze Salifert so I was planning on switching to them I am open to any quality test kit.

Some times when talking with the folks that post stuff it is easier to explain some problems if we all test the same. For example the ALK test kit I use right now does not tell me what the DKH is only that it is low normal or high. This kind of testing does not allow for accuate advise from other people.

I think that I will remain testing every other day for about 6 months to a year for CAL, ALK NO3 PH PHOS. By then I should be comfortable with the tanks stablity.

I think once the basic test have run out IE amonia, and nitrite I will purchase new kits and only test once a month with those particular test. right now i test every other day first thing (well at 11:00am) when I get up.

I am always open to good advised from anybody and I dont get controversial about anything (unless to talk bad about my wife). I deal with that enough at work.
