safe SG increase rate?

what is the quickest yet safest rate to raise the specific gravity of a tank from 1.020 to 1.025? (sailfin tang, pseudochromis, maroon clown, scooter dragonet inhabitants)

about .001 a day. hard to accurately measure without a refractometer, most swing arms or cheap hydrometers are too vague. What size tank are you trying to raise SG on?

well see its like this. i had my sailfin in a 20g and I wanted to combine the 20g and 30g into a 55g. I broke the 20g down and put all inhabitants (water, cc, filter etc) into a 10g. the 10g is going to end up with just the maroon clown and pseudochromis in it (the only 2 fish I cant put into the 55). but I want to get the tang out of there and into the 55g. could I just put the tang in a bucket and set up a slow drip to acclimate him to the 55g tank water? please help...

Prolly, but keeping the temp up in a bucket for a hr or two might be tough, I would be more concerned with space issues unless the tang is tiny. The more you fiddle with your tanks the more stressed everything will be

yeah i know. i have an extra heater if I were to go the bucket route. the tang is three inches from nose to caudal fin (caudal is the tail, right??) I figure, when people bring home fish from the lfs, the tanks are usually lower than peoples display tanks by two or three .001's anyways.

I know, I hate messing with the tanks. I just want to get everyone where they are going to be for a long time.
