Question

"safe" cleanup crew?...

cleaner shrimp are ok right?...

seems to be tricky what you can and cant put in if you wanna preserve your DSB...

from what i understand...

any crab = bad

coral banded shrimp = bad

what are the "safest" cleanup crew critters to put in?...

im leaning toward a variety of snails and a cleaner shrimp

thanks

brad

Hi Brad! Getting a variety of snails is really good. No hermit crabs except alot of hobbyist prefer a couple of scarlet hermit crabs! You should also get a couple of detrivore kits. Great places for these is http://www.ipsf.com or http://www.inlandaquatics.com You really want a diversity of infauna(critters) in your DSB.
I would hold off on the cleaner shrimp for awhile so you DSB can get established. It can take between 6months to a year for your DSB to be well established. HTH Johnny

Hi Brad,

If you feed your shrimp, they shouldn't prey on your DSB too badly. Skunk Cleaners are the better of the cleaners, fire or scarlets can munch polyps. Nassarius are essential to your DSB and get a combination of Tiger Trochus and Certihs.. Maybe some nerites. The coral banded, depending on the size of your tank, shouldn't be a problem if you feed well. They will eat worms and such, but one in a large tank won't do too much damage, not enough that your tank, once established, can't handle. I would add him last.

Scarlets are fine in small numbers.

It's always a good idea to seed your bed without predators for several months before adding them. Don't forget to feed your bed though.. a bit of flake should do it fine. Might also consider a cuke or two and maybe a fighting conch.
