Royal Gramma

Well I picked up on of these to round out my tank as far as fish stock goes, it is supposed to be compatible with clownfish, gobies, cardinals which is what else I have in there... I learned they eat small crustaceans, I guess that means pods... also that they are carnivores and I have delicious food for that..

Since I put him in him and the clownfish have been playing whos boss... they are supposed to be peaceful... the gramma just opens his mouth at my clownfish and the clown swims away... on another occasion my clownfish did a territorial "look at my side" display. All the fish in there now are best friends... maybe its gonna take some time for them to get used to one another..

The clownfish go swim by it with their little fins stuck up, but I think they are just curious about what it is...

Any comments on this being normal, especially others that have this fish..

I had the same behavior in my tank when I added the Gramma. He would open wide when ever anyone got too close and the clowns seemed to almost harrass him a little. They never got any more aggressive than that and it is a piecfull world now. One thing for sure is that the Gramma wont back down from anyone in my tank. Nerves of steel, and a big mouth!

Yeah things have calmed down now, he is swimming and the clowns aren't swimming up to him asking "what fish store did you come from" I will just keep an eye on him... his is so purple it almost hurts your eyes to look at it, almost like looking at a black light...

They will figure where their spot is in the tank and call it their spot.
