Funny you mentioned it! Today, around 2pm my neighborhood went out for the count. Yes, we were hit by the rolling blackout. 2 hours my tank was stagnant with the only current being provided by the fish as they swim close to a coral. My sump was full to the top waiting for it's return to the main tank. Xenia were slumpped over and pulsing as if they were fanning the rocks below them. The tank temperature did hit 82degf and stabilized there. The "go back" went smooth and everything resetted back to normal. Everyone appeared normal.
But, for those of you who doesn't experience "Rolling Blackouts", have you ever wondered what will happen to your system when power is interupted. Especially those with sumps. You can find out what will happen by simply unplugging the main return pump from your sump to your tank. After unplugging the power, watch the water level in your sump. If you think it will overflow, quickly plug the power back to your return pump. Your system should be relooked at to prevent water from overflowing over your sump if power is lost when you're not home.
