"Rogue Crabs" as Hitch Hikers...(Pic)

Hi All,

I thought I would create a page that had a few different kinds of "Rogue Crabs" that are commonly found in LR in hopes of easier identification. Keep in mind that I am only using "common/slang" names for them, but maybe this will help someone who has one of these critters. BTW, these came out of my LR from Tonga.

If you want to see a larger view, you can click on the link below...The first link will be an 8.5" X 11" size for printing (color printer is best). The second link is a BIG view that will give you more detail (it takes a minute to load.

I hope this helps.

Take care,

Talking

Yep, had/have the teddy bear. He is/was the size of a quarter, and didn't seem to harm anything. After a while when I fed the tank I would see a claw come out of the rock, grab a brine shrimp or whatever and drag it back into the rock. He and a huge black one I had were primarily nocturnal, seeming to pick at the rock, but left the corals alone.

Since adding a snowflake moray, I haven't seen these guys around , but they may still be lurking....

Very nice, Steven. Can I use your pics for our "what is it" webpage that we're building??

I think our 2 crabs that we caught are in the hairy variety. We believe they are responsible for killing some of our smaller fishes in our reef.

Cool

Thanks for the great pix, Pegasis! Crabzilla that I had in my 29 was, I think, RedEye. It was the size of the pic that I see in your post, i.e. about the size of an infant's hand. A veritable creeping menace in my tank. Got rid of him in November, and now I think I have another

Brooke,

It would make me proud if you would like to use the pic/page that I made up.

My intent of making this was to help people and if it does that then that is great. There is no copyright on it so use it anywhere that will help people and do good .

My best wishes,
