RO Water Storage

I have a quick question for you experienced Reefers out there...

Do you keep any pre-made RO water around? Say... in 5 gallon buckets or water cooler bottles? I was thinking for my 90gal system I'll be building in the next couple weeks I'd keep RO water on hand for filling up the ATO reservoir and making salt water for water changes. That way I always have some on hand when I need some.

If you keep water, what do you store it in? I was thinking about ordering some 5gal water bottles but didn't know where you guys would recommend ordering them from.

Any thoughts?

I just store mine in empty 5 gallon buckets (IO reef crystal buckets). It seems to work really well. But I am topping off daily so I am constantly carrying the bucket from the bathroom to the tank.

I use rubbermaid brute trash cans, they are FDA approved as long as you use the grey, yellow, or another color I can't remember. I have a 32 gallon for fresh RO/DI and a 40 gallon that I use for making salt water. I also use a rectangular 22 gallon rubbermaid container as my top off resovoir.

You can see my top off container on the platform under the stairs and you can see the larger trash can for saltwater on the right.

I dont recommend aerating except for right before using it for 10-15 mintues and even that isnt necessary for small 10% water changes. the more you aerate the more crap from the air in your garage will be pulled into the water.

I do find it better to have a pump running at all times though. If I let the water just sit it smells stale when you take the top off. This is easy if you have a large container but no so much if you use buckets.

I used to use 5 gallon buckets and would have to carry them from the laundry room in the basement to the fishtank room in the family room. My husband made a setup using a 33 gallon rubbermaid container, ran a hose from the laundry room, through the ceiling to the fishtank room. Now we just turn on a pump and the water is pumped from the basement to the auto-top off. Also works great for water changes.
