RO unit? Which to buy?
Happy Sunday.
Setting up a 125 gallon reef tank. What RO units do you recommend? Will probably want a valve for automatic topoff. Want something with readily availlable cartridges, too.
Thanks.

Kent Marine Hi-S 60. SpectraPure is good, but I like the clear globes on the Kent's, so you can see what the filters are doing.

Kent, Spectrapure, almost any of the name-brand models are all good.
Unlike skimmers...RO/DI units are pretty standard. They're all about the same. Just look at the purity rating (99% vs 94% vs 89%), how many stages (and what each stage does), GPD rating, and membrane type. Anything after that is all bells and whistles.

I have a Kent Maxxima, I like it a lot, had it for over five years without a hitch (other than replacing canisters and filters for it, normal maintenance).

You are just paying extra for the name with Kent. Look for a company that does water purification exclusively.

I like my AquaSafe model that I got off of e-bay. I paid about $110.00. I have had 0 tds for over a year. The instructions were a little hard to understand, but you can call the owner if you need help.

I bought a 6 stage 110 gpd RO/DI Water General unit of Ebay a few years ago for less than $100. I took off the last stage, carbon filter for taste, because it was adding TDS to the final product. So now I have a 5 stage.
I haven't replaced a filter yet in the 2+ years I've had it...TDS are still at 4ppm or less depending on how long it's been running when I test.
I did have to spend over $300 on an RO/DI booster pump because the house pressure was only 40 psi and it would take over 8 hours to get 10 gallons of RO/DI. The booster pump bumps the psi up to about 90, well within the rated limits for the filter, and now it only takes me about 8 hours to get enough water for water changes (15 gallons) and top off water for a few weeks (15 gallons) instead of 2 or 3 days.
