RO H2O Systems

I really dont have the room "inside" my house for an RO system to be used on my soon to be setup 90g reef tank.

Are there systems I could set up in my garage (taping and draing to washing machine hookups) where I would have a small holding tank for use on topoffs and H2O changes?

Any suggestions on getting that water to and from the tank? I'm guessing at this point that I'll use a pump and about a 40+ foot run of flexible tubing or hose to fill and drain?!

How long can RO H2O "sit" in a holding tank or vat?

Am I on the right track gang?

tanks alot...david

Hey David

Sounds like you're on the right track to me.

I don't see why you couldn't hook up any of the RO/DI units in the garage and just have it drain into some sort of closed container. I use a 5 gal bucket. You might want to look into some food grade containers that are bigger. One thing to be aware of with very pure water, keep it tightly closed because it will pull in contaminants from the air.

I use a large submersible pump from Dolphin to pump our water around. I'm sure any pressure rated pump would work for you too.

We use RO water at work which I bring home to use in my 75. It is quite a large system and has a 1000 gal holding tank.. I also have a small RO unit which I hook up in the bathroom when I am too lazy to carry water. You could probably get a plastic 55 gallon drum to store your water in.. Putting by the washer would be a good idea as it would also provide a drain for the waste.. I don't beleive the storage time of RO is as important as DI as the water is not totally stripped and looking and looking to recharge itself..
