ro/di woes

Hello everyone. I purchased a Water General unit about a year ago. When I set it up I had a hard time getting the intake hose to stay on. The pressure would pop it off. After trying several different things, I got it to work. Now it came off again and I can't get the thing to stay on. The hose goes through the nut and gets pushed onto a hollow 'pin', which the nut holds in place. My question is does anyone here have one of these units and had similar problems? Do most RO units connect this way? If so, it seems to me that this would be a chronic problem for people. I have tried to use less faucet pressure. I may just purchase a new unit, but don't want to run into a similar problem.

Thanks much,

Mark

There is supposed to be a crush peice on the outside too, I think you are missing a peice.

The hose should go in, have a hollow peice on the inside, and a donut over the hose on the out side, the nut crushes the donut down and holds the whole thing together.

My vote, replace it with a john guest fitting from HD.

Thanks for your help Wiskey. That makes sense. They must have forgotten the o-rings. I wish I would have asked sooner.

No Prob.

BTW, it's not an O-Ring, it's a copper or plastic ring. That's why this is called a Compression fitting, because it compresses the ring into the hose and inside part. This is the kind of fitting they use on 99.99% of Semi truck airlines (for the breaks and such).

I am looking at the John Guest fittings now. Is there something that will actually screw onto the mail intake on the filter housing to replace what I currently have? I don't see anything here. If not, the copper ring goes between the nut and lip of the pin that the intake hose connects to? Sorry, obviously I have some plumbing deficiencies. Thanks again Wiskey.

Ya, the ones about exactally half way down that page are John Guest, to male pipe thread, if your housing is male, then you will need a female to female adaptor. You thread one side into your canister, and then just push the hose into the other (make sure you get the one with the right RO hose size). This locks it in place. You can also get what you need at HD that way you can see what you are gettting.

My filter came with all Jhon Guest connectors.
