RO/DI Unit, not used freq. becomes faulty!!?!

Ok, I finally bought the Typhoon unit from Air Water & Ice and I found out that my unit must be used at least once every two weeks for my Ro/DI unit to be in good shape. I was wondering how often you use your RO/DI unit. Below is a copy of the email from them.

Hi, Just toss out he first one to two gallons of product made.
If you use your unit at least once a week you are ok . Just do not allow it to stand in direct sunlight.

Hi Walter,

I wont be using my unit once a week, I was going to fill up my aquarium (150 gallons) and then fill a 45 gallon container with the RO/DI water. Then put it away, the 45 gallon rubbermaid container will be used for partial water change. The next time I would pull out my RO/DI unit would be anywhere from 4-6 months or even as long as 8 months. Would this be a problem?

Thanks!

That would not be my favorite way to use the system . All filters work best when used on a regular basis . Everytwo weeks is pushing it . In fact that is what the fast flush is all about , dumping stale water prior to making water.

I think the membrane and the di resin drys out causing a problem. Maybe you sould back flush and store with some di to keep it all wet?
