RO/DI Shut off

When turning off an RO/DI unit...is it better to turn it off at the output, or the water coming INTO the unit?

The reason I ask is...when I shut off my unit, water from the 2nd chamber seems to empty (guess it's going into the membrane chamber).

But I'm worried it doesn't stop there. Does the water drain entirely from the unit?

I'm worried because my instructions state to NEVER let the membrane get dry, it should remain wet at all times. But if water's draining out when I shut off the unit, I'm ruining my membrane. So if I shut it off at the output, then water will always be in the unit. (but so will PRESSURE).

Or is water draining from the 2nd chamber to KEEP the membrane wet?

anyone know?

problem is...I shut it off at the water source (ie. my main line).

So after I shut if off, some more RO/DI water still trickles out, for a few minutes.

But when I come back a half hour later, my 2nd chamber is almost completely empty. (but the first still has water, and the 4th seems to be about 1/2 full).
(the 3rd canister is my membrane, and I can't see in there...hehehehe)

Skeety I shut my off at the main water supply and it was doing the same , Now I shut it off there and at the ro output with a little valve I picked up at lowes and that took care of it ,

If I just shut it off at the output, I'm concerned about two things:

1. All the pressure of the water coming into the unit. WIll it ruin anything over time?

2. With all that pressure, there has to be release. If I shut off the output, and water is still coming into the unit, does that mean that the WHOLE time it's off, I have waste-water pouring out?
