Question

Ritteri Anemone behavioral question...

Hi All,

I have a Ritteri Anemone and placed it on a "pedestal" rock so it would stay more or less in one place. I directed water flow to it. I has a pair of Percula Clowns for friends. It stayed in one spot for about a week and then started to explor the rock. It has never gone down off of the rock, but I seems to have chosen a spot right on the edge of the rock where it is half hanging off of the rock where it is basically open on the hanging part and somewhat retracted on the upper part that is on the top of the rock. It seems to be healthy, good color, tight mouth, not "deflated" eats just fine.

I tried to re-direct it by placing PHs to "encourage" it up on top of the rock, but it stayed.

Although it isn't the best spot (asthetically), should I just leave it there and assume it is happy there?

This is my 1st anemone so I don't have allot of real experience with their behavior. I have read about them in books, online and in forums, but I just wanted to see if this sounded like "normal" behavior.

Your experience and input would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Steven

Hi Pegasis,

Sorry for the delay, but I was down with the sniffles (still am actually).

Your 'ritteri', actually Heteractis magnifica naturally seeks prominent anchorage points, whereas most host anemones seek to conceal the body column is silt or rubble.

You're not the first one to find that you can lead an anemone to substrate, but you can't force it to anchor there :-)

Have fun, hehehe
