rise and fall of tank temps

My tank temp drops down to about 79 deg, at night when the MH and flouresents are off and rise to about 82 deg when they are on. My MH is a foot above the water I have one fan blowing outward to help keep it cool and i have good surface agitation to help with evaporation of the tank. My ? is, is this temp flux going to be ok or will I need to do something about it and what? I cant get a chiller right now. Thanks for the help.

Hey Hoginme, 81-82 is fine for a reef tank with adequate circulatiom, I would set the heater up till it almost comes on when the lights are on and it should keep the temps fairly stable

I run my big tank at 82; having a heck of a time keeping the temp constant in my nano at work which sits right by the heating/cooling vent. (sigh)

As long as your swing between day and night temps stays consistent and doesn't drop lower than it is now, I think your tank will be fine.

Our tank is about 79 in the morning and 81 in the evening. Yesterday it crept up to 83 . We have been lucky enough to have our AC off for about a week now, but it was still getting a little stuffy in here. I'll up the therm. temp to 79.5. Maybe this will help our swing.

Man, wouldn't that aquacontroller have been nice yesterday!

I don't think 83's a big deal Brooke; I know people who run their tanks at 84 but boy, that's pushing the envelope to me.
