RIP: longspine urchin

Well last week he was sucking his eye in and out. And this week he's dead. Doubt there is a connection but it is a bummer. I really liked it. Oh well.

cant remember exactly when I got him but I think it's been under a month.

I will not get another because I don't know why he died and I dont want to kill another one . Most everything else seems happy. Havent lost any sps since the two frags when I first started the tank. Everything else is growing and happy. Doh!

Best I can say is when cleaning the skimmer I spilled a bit back into the tank... maybe that did him in

I also had a tendency to accidentally knock him off his perch when cleaning the tank. Well last time it happened he fell into my ginopora and lost like 3 spines. Maybe that did it.

That might have been what happened to him. Sorry yo hear about you Urchin. They are a cool creature to have in the tank i had to let mine go because he was eating the silicone seams in my tank.

The loss of spines was likely it. They have skin covering their spines so any loss is like an open wound, ripe for infection. spilling skimmate in the tank wouldn't likely do it. I dive at the St. Andrew's Pass in Panama City and the water quality fluctuates wildly around there as the tide changes yet there are millions of long-spined urchins.
