Rio Seios v. Tunze...
Which do ya'll think that I should buy? What is the best buy for the money? Are there any other similar powerheads on the market? Before weighing in check out this link:

I've had both the Seios and Tunzes in my tank. I like the Tunze better. These run very quiet and produce a good flow pattern. Cost a little more, but I think they are worth it.

Here's the deal as I see it.
If you can afford a pair of Tunze 6100's on a multicontroler then do it.
I used Seio's for a long time and they worked great, provided flow and never missed a beatl When I got the money I bought the new pumps, a pair of 6100's on a multicontroler and I'm not looking back.
The Tunze are expensive, but great pumps, I especially like that they only put 12V in the drink, it's safer, but if there is anything else in your tank you could spend the money on (Better lights or skimmer) then it's better spent there.

So...in other words...there isn't all that much wrong with the Seios...except for the fact they are made by Rio and they are less efficient than the Tunze models. I think I get it.
Now...does everyone think that these are my best options? Just buy a couple of Seios if I feel like cheaping out or Tunzes if I feel like splurging a little...or would I be better off getting a wavebox or something else instead to help out with turbulance and waterflow?

Pros and Cons of the Seio's and the Tunze Nano Streams and Streams:
Pros
Seio's
Cost effective upfront
Easy mounting and smaller size allows them to be placed pretty much anywhere in the tank.
Tunze Nanostreams
Come with mounting magnets.
Can be rotated 180 degrees for easy setup.
Top notch construction.
Creates a gentle, billowing flow pattern that covers a large area.
Comparable in price to the Seio's.
Energy efficient.
Compact size.
The 6055 model is controllable.
Tunze Streams
Produce rediculous amounts of flow.
Energy Efficient.
Creates a gentle billowing flow pattern that covers a large area.
Most of the larger models can be put on their controllers to create crazy water flow patterns and waves.
Top notch construction.
Cons
Seio
Poorly constructed. Notorious for breaking down so not as cost effective over long run.
Max size is 2600 gallons per hour.
Flow is more linear so it does not cover a large indirect area.
Tunze Nanostreams
Max flow on the largest model is only 1500 gph
No other negatives that I can think of.
Tunze Streams
Larger controllable models are very pricey.
They are very large for powerheads so they can be an eyesore.
The flow pattern covers so much area that it can make it difficult to keep a DSB from blowing all over the place. This problem can be minimized with proper placement of the Stream.
I have seen all three in action and have used most of the Tunze models and I have to say that there is no comparison between Seio's and Tunze's especially with the new Nano models.

Dr.Fish,
Please provide some more details on your setup like tank dimensions and what you want to keep in the way of corals and fish.
I have run waveboxes, 6100's, 6200's all on multicontrollers and I have worked with the Nano Streams and the Seio's so I could probably recommend the best pumps for your application.

I disagree about seios being poorly constructed. I have been running 2 m1500's for a year without a problem, I just added 2 more and also have been running two on a controller for 3 months without a problem. Their flow pattern is also not very linear. They are not Tunze but they do a great job.

Whiskey put it the best.
if you can convince yourself to fork out 800 for a pair of pumps and a controller then do it, you wont need to buy another pump unless you go to a bigger tank. Low watts means less heat in your tank. I just bought 2 seio m1500's from a friend who bought a pair of tunze and his tank temp droped one degree after removing the seio.
I am going to stick with the seios untill I have nothing else to buy for the tank. I am going to get a aquacontroller first

so...a couple of tunze turbelle nanostream 6025's is a good idea? They appear to be so tiny...are these things self powered?

I've owned Seios for a long time.
My 1100's, for some reason, have run well for over 1.5 years.
My 1500s, however, are dogs! I have replaced the impeller in both of the 1500s because the magnets cracked, and even then, one recently seized up AGAIN! So that's 2 impellers on one 1500 in under 6 months.
Needless to say, a few months ago I purchased a Vortech powerhead, and will be purchasing at least 1 more, maybe 2, in the coming month(s), and finally getting rid of these giant Seios.

vortech's are appealing, they have battery backup and a controller is coming out soon. Just watch out for your fish!

The problem I have with my Seio's is the same as I had with Rio's, if you turn them off, they don't always re-start, you need to take them out and clean them to get them started again.

i have been lucky and had not run into that problem yet. I have 2 seios on the seio controller which shuts the pumps off for feeding time and they restart. As soon as they start doing that ( if they ever do) its tunze time
