Richordia Splitting?

I moved a bunch of rock around in the tank today. Tried to make something more interesting. I ended up facing the rock with the richordia on it a different way. Well after things settled down in the tank and it opening back up it looks like it might of split or something. I could not tell if it had another mouth or not because the lights went out about minute after I took this picture.

looks like its going to drop another one next to itself. Congrats. I have heard of people putting these on cutting boards......and literally just chopping them up in 10-20 pieces........and then just holding them to the rock by pantihose.......and they will all individually attach and grow with time. Pretty sweet idea.

I took another look this morning and it does have another mouth. This is the first one I have had and find it pretty exciting that it is doing that.

Congrats! It doesnt have to have a mouth to split either. You can simply cut a small piece off and attach it with netting or pantyhose and it will grab hold within a day or two. Mushrooms are awesome little corals, easy to frag and fun to watch grow in your tank. keep up the good work!

Congrats! I have to say I saw one of the orange richodias at the LFS yesterday and plan on getting that as my next coral. The colors are just too good to pass up!

It does not seem to be too picky about the light. Mine is currently by the stock CF's that came with the aquapod.

I'm thinking of cutting a piece off and trying that but I am honestly afraid to do it.

I bought two rics, each the size of a quarter. This was sometime last year. This picture was taken about 6 months ago, there are a bunch more now. It's hard to count b/c they overlap each other a bit, but I think my two split into about 20 and some are the size of silver dollars or bigger.

Theres a guy and his wife in the reef club I go to that said hes got so many in his tank that he would give me as many as I wanted. After you have mastered the keeping of them. You will have more every month. Start off with 10 end up with 80 in a year. jeeze. Sounds like a money maker.
