ok, so it looks like the flow up from return pump is not quite as strong as my drain down so thats good, but i worry if somehow it were to get clogged my pump would end up overflowing my tank and draining my sump.
ok so my question is if i were to place my pump in a position so that it couldnt get enough water to overflow my tank but would end up suckign air, would that be terrible? i'd like for nothing bad to happen but if it's just going to ruin the pump i'd be ok with that over a flood. but i wasnt sure if it would burn it out and send toxins or something else i hadn't thought of. thanks alot guys

That will work.......many people do just that.

Personally...i prefer to have plenty of extra capacity in the drainlines, so even if they do get clogged drastically......it can still handle my return flow. Wont burn any pumps up that way, or create any other water level issues either.

That sounds like it would work,... but like you said that would destroy your pump.

The thing that worries me is toping off, if you go too long without doing it then you would suck air and ruin your pump. Plus when the drain gets too close to the surface it will start to suck air.
