return pump

Ok i purchased my 110g used and the guy threw in the return pump he used with it
So I am using it.
Curiosity impelled me to see what kinda pump it was so i did a serial number lookup on google. i was curious why my 2 return lines where both 1 inch in diameter

It is a Mag 12
those thing have a 1200 gph flow
is this to much water turnover?
Is it possible with that kind of flow just to pipe my return directly into the skimmer and eliminate a pump for my skimmer?

Just putting questions out their
i guess thats why I have a 2 inch bulkhead

i have a Mag12 powering my skimmer only. what you want is to have the flow through the sump match the processing flow of your skimmer. in most cases this is 1/4 to 1/3 the flow rating of the pump not attached to a skimmer. in most cases skimmers only process about 400gph.

If the flow is too much, put a ball valve on the outlet of the pump (never on the intake). You can then regulate it as you wish.
