Return Line Question....

What size is good for a return line if I run a Mag Drive 12 (1200 gph) ? 1/4", 1/2", 3/4" ?

Thanks

My Mag 9.5 is threaded for 3/4" and thats what I run. I actually split it three ways with 3/4" pvc. Two lines run to each upper corner of the tank and one runs down behind the live rock in back to provide circulation.

The manual suggests 1.5" for maximum flow. That is what I run, but then again my total length of my CLS is 8 inches.

If you go to large, the water will have alot of room to cause alot of turbulance at the other end, when reducing back down to your return fitting. I know Really I don't make this stuff up

I've used 3/4" on both my MAG 18 and MAG 12... The 18 is currently T'd and runs to the two 3/4" return bulkheads in my 125, throtled down with a ball valve before the T.
