Report on Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt
I started with 40 gallons of fresh RO/DI water. 0.0-TDI, 7.0-PH
First thing I noticed was that the salt came wrapped in a plastic bag inside a bucket, but was still very clumped and had to be broken up. It definitely took longer to dissolve that IO, but did dissolve completely.
I brought the batch up to 1.025 salinity and 78 DegF
PH went to 8.03
Using Salifert kits, calcium was at a whopping 520, and KH was at 10.8(3.83 meq/L for you alkalinity buffs)
I added 1 TBS of Kent SuperBuffer dKh which raised the KH to 12.5(to match the tank) and the Ph to 8.1
I then raised the salinity to 1.028 for the WC.
I'll let you know how everything responds in the days(weeks) to follow.

Why 1.028? are you using a refractometer to measure?

My salinity in the tank drops to 1.024 over the week. By doing a 20% WC @ 1.028, it brings the salinity back to 1.025. Yes I use a refractometer.

That's weird. I used it for awhile but quit because Ca & alk were very low. If I remember right it was around ~300 for Ca and Alk was ~2 meq/l. I'll be interested to see what types of numbers as you go through different buckets. I wonder if there is a consistency issue. It's been at least a year so maybe they changed something.
BTW, my corals did just fine when I was using it. I just couldn't get past the paying more for less issue.

OK just checking, for obvious reasons
Sounds like you all over it, are you running a "WET" skimmer? i

I have been using Tropic Marin Pro Reef for 5 months now and all I have to say are great things about this salt. Some people here saw some before and after pictures of my tank and they were impresed by the growing ratio on my corals. I'm keeping some sps now and the acropora is growing approx. 1/8" per week and that's something to be proud for IMO. I only dose kalkwasser with a kent aquadose to replace fresh water and that's it.
My parameters:
pH: 8.4(lights on) 8.1(lights off with 15w on in sump)
Alkalinity:4.5 meq/L
Calcium: 400ppm
Nitrate: 0
Amonia: 0
Nitrite: 0

I have a friend who use Tropic Marine Pro reef and so far none of his salt came up so clumped that he had to break them...
