How far are you from Indianapolis and Premium Aquatics?
And replacing LR slowly is just fine.

Premium Aquatics and Marine Depot are a few good choices. The reason I bought up PA is cuz it's a bit cheaper if you pick it up.

Any LR that is out of the water for any extended period of time will have to be cured.
I think I am missing what you're trying to say.

If I recall correctly, they put wet newspaper over the LR. Stuff still dies, though.
I am sitting here wondering if it would better to cure a piece in an established tank, or in a bucket of saltwater...

Indeed. If you put it in a tub/bucket to cure, and keep the temp up, I think it will be okay.
Sorry, I wish I could be more help.

remember the more life that is on the LR the more the LR is full of phosphates. i woud rather get LR that has been sitting in a tank for 3 months and void of life than some that is covered in algae and critters.
