Removing Cu from QT

Rick the Tang is all good now. No more ick outbreaks. After 11 days of Cu dosing I think he is done. The display still needs a few more weeks for the parasite poplation to crash. Now... on to removing the Cu. Will a carbon filter work? Or do I just have to wait for the ionic Cu to react and become inert.

Hi;

Glad to hear that Rick is spot free! If you've got any porous objects in the tank, rock or substrate, it can hold the copper for a long time. QT's are best with a bare bottom, some PVC or plastic pots for hiding spaces and a sponge filter that was cured in your main tank or sump for dentrification. If you don't have a sponge filter and used rock instead, I'd take most of the rock out, do waterchanges.

I'd leave Rick in the QT for a minimum of six weeks to be on the safe side. As Horge said, failsafe is 72 days and that's almost 10 weeks. It's a bummer, I know.
