Remove Bio Balls?

Hi I've been contemplating taking the bioballs out of my sump. Until recently I haven't had any problems. Just got over a bad bout of cyano, after hooking up a gfo reactor and a three day lights out things are back to normal. So my question is are the bioballs fueling this out break to a point and will I benefit from removing them. Here is a pic of tank now after lights out.

I removed mine. I think bio-balls are a never ending battle between tank keepers. If you do remove them do it slowly. I removed all mine at once and my tank had a mini cycle again.

Yeah I've been thinking about it for a while, the tank is 1 yr old now and 90 lbs live rock and 80 lbs of sand I'm not sure the bioballs are doing me any good anymore.

Simple answer... yes, remove them, but in stages. Say 1/3rd at a time
