Remote plenum, crazy or stupid?

Would adding a plenum refugium be crazy or just stupid? System set-up as follows. 29g AGA, closed loop w/ 296 gph circ with roughly 230 gph from the sump. 1"-1.5" oolictic sand on bottom just for the critters. Lots-o-poop siphoned out of the sump but plenty still gets to the fuge. I have room for another 10g fuge. I am wondering if a plenum fuge might get my nitrates to 0, like I want. I will alway run a skimmer, so much for the Juabert system. Maybe I can leave well enough alone but it sounds like fun so let give it a thought. Spanky, I already know you'll hate this idea but, some of us just might like to have "poop" in our tanks.
