Question

Reef Safe Crab???

well i had just acclimated a new cleaner shrimp to my tank, when i spotted outa the corner of my eye something squeezing through the intake grate, then to my astonishment its a crab! i have never bought a crab nor have i ever added one, and all the rock in the tank has been freshwater dipped and inspected by me... where did he come from i have NO IDEA! well i hurilly scooped him up and put him in his own lil jail in my tank, now my question is, is this lil' guy reef safe? and being that cleaner shrimps are fairly docile will he possibly harm my shrimp? there are no other in habitants besides 3 nasarius snails, 2 black turbos, and 2 blue leg hermits.

sorry this pic isnt very detailed, the crab seems to be covered in dust from the fuge in the back of the tank, he appears to be about dime size and light brown. i currently have green button polyps, orange zoos, a feather duster, various shrooms, and a gsp.

i dont want to keep this guy unless he will bennefit my tank somehow.

thanks for viewing and or replying!

Can't see pics here at work but sound like a gorrila crab and they are not a good thing. I am anti crab anyways so I am a little biased when it comes to crabs. I have yet to find a good one.

whoa.. that doesn't look like a good one to me either... it's more stout than the more reef-safe type crabs.. but I don't like crabs much either... never had any luck with them other than a couple arrow crabs... they always start getting into things I don't want them in.

do you have any shrimp or fish in the tank before you added the shrimp? if nothing has gone wrong then i wouldn't worry about him. you can always throw him in the sump too.
