Red versus Green Open Brains

I have a small 20 Gl Nano with green polyps, toadstool and xenia for corals and I want an open brain. I was wondering other than appearance the difference between the reds versus the greens were. Are they both easy to keep, feed, get along with other corals and most of all which one would fit better in a 20GL high tank. Any comments are appreciated.

What kind of lighting you have is going to dictate more than anything whether or not an open brain will do well in your tank. As far as lighting requirements between the red and green, there isn't any difference. If you've got PC's or VHO over the tank, it should do fine.

They do like to be fed and will usually put out feeding tentacles in the evening, often after lights out. I feed mine blender mush, small pieces of whole silversides or bits of shrimp. It will also catch brine or dry sinking pellets if they happen to drift into its tentacles.

They can grow to be quite large although pretty slowly. They're generally pretty hardy and would make a nice centerpiece to your tank. Your clowns may even take to it as a "host."

HTH,

Alice
