Red Sea Salt?????

Good, bad, OK? I searched and didn't really find what I wanted. i use IO, but got 200 gallon mix of Red sea for free(sortof). Can i use it slowly say 5 gallons worth in a 20 gallon WC?

I will continue to use IO, just hate to see this go to waste.

I have never used it so i dont know. I have only used IO salt and never had any problems with keeping levels where i want them.

I don't plan on changing, just wondering if it's OK to use. I see virtually no one uses this ......this is why my concern!

Also I noticed when I mixed a 5 gallon bucket of it up...is was rather dirty looking. Slight grayish/black tint to it?

My IO is nice and clear w/ just a blue hue to it.

Well as long as the salt is goos , I don't think it will be real bad to use alittle each change. I would do one change IQ then one red sea, I have mixed salts before and have never had a problem, I have never used red sea.

I used Red Sea a good deal. I cant say that it will effect your tank the way that it did mine, but I didnt have a single problem. Places around here only carried IO, Kent, Red Sea and Coralife till about a week ago (small town). Recently some of the shops have been getting in a HUGE amount of salt though.

I HAD to use Red Sea because it was cheap and I was waiting for a bucket of my regular stuff to arrive via mail and it took several of weeks for some odd reason.

It appears the dirty water is from the pump. I have used it thisweekend as well to circulate water in a rbeermaid while the tanks was down. It must have had some trapped stuff in it.....as i rinsed it pretty god before using it to mix the salt?

I use Red Sea salt, but my tank is pretty young. I chose it because it's 87% natural. When I was getting started it seemed like a good sales pitch. haha. Like I said, I've always used it and never had problems that I would attribute to salt mix. My tank is progressing nicely.

I used it on my first tanks. it is ok. I don't see any issues with using a little in each change.

My opinion is this: We spend HUNDREDS of dollars on lights, skimmers, live rock, corals, etc.

Really willing to risk all that stuff over a ~$30 bucket of salt?

just my opinion.

too many variables

I don't think the lights will mind the new salt
Skimmer may not care for the taste however!

Good point though!
