Question

Red Legged Hermit Crab

I have just started up a 20 gallon reef tank. Im pretty new at this. I bought a Red Legged Hermit crab and I found him up on my rock. He was what I thought cleaning, but it looked like he was picking away at the rock. Should I get ride of him? Please Help Me!

Welcome to TRT!!!

hermits are opportunistic, so if here was something on the LR that it could eat, it prolly was eating it. they prefer algae, but if there is little algae than they will go hunting.

Welcome aboard!! w00000000000000t!!!

Fwiw, red legged hermits are in general very well behaved, relatively speaking. But as Geoff said, all hermits are opportunistic.

They will pick at anything they can find to eat but really don't do much if any damage to anything. They can be cool to watch too.

I would stay away from the red legged if it is hairy........one destroyed a good bit of corals in my tank.
