Ready to set Mantis Shrimp trap, question

I made a mantis shrimp trap out of a pop bottle. Should I wait until the tank is dark to put it in, or can I just do it any old time? I don't want to catch any of my fish, etc.

at night would be a great time. that way it will most likely keep the fish from trying to get in, yet give the shrimp the cover of darkness it likes to go hunting. the shorter you keep the bait in the tank the better also.
