Re-Curing live rock

I really don't know how to search for this information, so i hope you guys can give some input here. I have a 30 gallon and al was well for about 5 years and then hair algae was unstoppable- uncontrolable, to the point where i stripped the tank and took all my rock out right now i got the tank running with just the corals, the corals that were attatched to rock still have some hair algae on them, but I added some blue leg hermits and an emerald crab and will scrub them as best as i could. I stripped the tank about 2 months ago , and the live rock were sitting out bening my house on some grass, the ping corallin obvviously dies so the rocks are all white, i though 2 mths would be long enough but the still smell funky, Thats just the start i couldn't believe that the freakin green algae was still green and looked just freakin fine like it was in the tank all along!!!!!!!, ( the parts that were not exposed to the sun). I boiled the rocks for about 10 minuted about 2 days ago, i guedd the green algae is dead not, the rocks still smell funky. I want to make sure that these rocks are safe to add to my tank what is the best way to reintroduce them?i may get a pound of live rock from the lfs just to get some additional life, but i dont wanna add too much live rock from lfs to avoid reintroducing undesirable things, i wanna keep this tank PURE. TIA.

You have a few options:

1) Scrap the existing rock, buy some base rock and seed it with some fresh live rock.

2) Scrap the existing rock, buy all new fresh live rock.

3) "purge" the rock. This is the process often referred to as "cooking" your live rock, which IMO is completely misleading because it doesn't invlove cooking at all. There is a pretty good explanation of the process in this thread: http://thereeftank.com/forums/showth...hlight=cooking

IMO, I'd probably go for purging the rock(because I believe it's the best way to get rid of phosphate/nitrate in lr), although if you boiled the rock already, any bacteria are probably dead, so you will probably still need to seed the rock with some fresh lr.
